Chris Hooper
A former creative at TBWA/Chiat/Day/LA and Goodby, Silverstein & Partners/SF, Hooper's prolific spot-helming career includes notable work such as Volkswagen, DirecTV and Budweiser for which he took an honor at Cannes, The One Show, AICP, and more. Known for his physical humor and intelligence, his comedy roots run deep. His love for illustration in college led him to cross over to the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena which then led him to his tenures at above mentioned Chiat Day (both in Toronto and LA) and as a Senior Art Director at Goodby, Silverstein and Partners.
Chris’ love for working on the agency side created an understanding of the discipline and parameters of spot filmmaking. At once a challenge to develop the work, while staying mindful of the strategy, the move to directing was only natural. He brings a combination of visual artistry and comedic timing to all of his work, blending the two worlds seamlessly. As a lover of humanity, he can find the nuance in people’s frailties and vulnerabilities making for truly great casting and in his words “it’s almost mandatory to have a sense of humor” ... and “laughter is my drug of choice.”
2010 and 2011 brought several creative new (and repeat clients) for Chris. Along with Deutsch, and Arnold Worldwide out of Boston, Hooper created new spots for Tracy Locke, Dailey & Associates, the Jacobs Agency, and Grey/NY, who recently gave him the opportunity to helm yet another DirecTV campaign - round two of the much acclaimed “Oligarch” campaign.
Chris is smart, strategic, quick witted, collaborative and commands a fabulous client dinner along with a great vibe on set. One of his more recent accomplishments in life is a beautiful (now 7 month old) little boy named Gray, for whom his 6 year old daughter Mia can finally boss around for eternity.
